Do you want to polish your business or nonfiction writing? If so, you have come to the right place! I am a Chicago freelance editor with over eleven years of copyediting, proofreading, and substantive editing experience.
My professional training includes a Master of Applied Science in information and communications technology, a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in creative writing, and a Bachelor of Science in technical communication with a concentration in technical writing and editing. Visit my About Me page to learn more.
I offer three editing services to help you present highly readable, effective content:
Copyediting identifies grammar issues, punctuation errors, and other concerns such as awkward phrasing and inconsistent language. Copyediting may include minor rephrasing or light rewriting.
Substantive editing (also called content or line editing) is similar to copyediting but delves more deeply into issues of clarity and style. Substantive editing can involve moderate rephrasing at the sentence level or complete rewriting of entire paragraphs, sections, or chapters.
Proofreading finds basic grammatical errors, typos, and formatting issues in finished documents. Proofreading is the last round of editing before publication.
Most projects don’t require all three forms of editing. Once we have a chance to discuss your writing goals, we can work together to create an editing package that meets your needs.
My services are available individually or can be combined to meet your unique situation.
Visit my Services page to learn how copyediting, substantive editing, and proofreading can bring out the best in your writing. You can also find links to writing samples on my Portfolio page and an overview of my work process on my FAQs page.
